In this video,Dr. Joanne Dolhanty and Anne Hilde Vassbø Hagen discuss how skills from emotion focused therapy can be used to help caregivers deal with both their children’s emotions and their own.
In the featured demonstration, Dr. Dolhanty works with a caregiver as they explore and identify emotional blocks in order to allow the client to flourish in using the skills they are being taught. Dr. Dolhanty incorporates the two-chair method as well as other carefully timed interventions to help the client focus on confronting rather than avoiding their emotions and fears in being a parent. This demonstration is followed by a lively discussion between the guest experts about key moments in the session.
